Our accommodations for your holiday stay in Apulia, Southern Italy
Hello! This morning I was going to check for the small plants of golden tomatoes on my balcony, since I water them quite often, mostly twice a day, when I saw this little beauty taking a rest in the vase of the daisies and contemplating the view. Very quickly, I grabbed my camera and slowly focused on it. Glad I could immortalize the moment we said “good morning” to each other. It was like a little miracle of the day. Wishing a good day to everybody 🙂
It is our desire to express our best wishes to all mothers in the world.
Besides, our heartfelt thoughts and affectionate closeness go, in particular way, to those mothers, who are fighting against a bad illness and to those, who are suffering and struggling to protect their children in the middle of an insane war.
Sending ❤ to everybody. Thanks
Hello! It is the beginning of the fourth Advent week and we are in the mood for Christmas. We enjoyed a beautiful walk in the early morning in the Baroqued old town of Lecce, South of Apulia, and took some pictures while the city was just waking up. A new video is now available on Giuseppa Sallustio Vimeo channel and here in our webpages at My Holidays in Apulia®. Welcome!
It was last year, around Christmas time, when your host, Giuseppa Sallustio, made the following Vimeo video with a selection of photos taken between Autumn and the Advent season 2020 by visiting small towns and cities of art in the South of Apulia. Then, the short Vimeo video was posted here in the Home page dedicated to My Holidays in Apulia® tourist company.
From then on, in this 2021, more steps have been taken to overcome the pandemic, in order to get back to a more normal life and finally, by observing health rules, being allowed to visit families members, meet friends, to travel, etc.
Now, we are almost to enter a new Advent season and the wish for everyone is to live this time of the year with the mesmerising child feeling in the heart.
Welcome and enjoy the video:

It was time for a gorgeous drive along the winding streets of the undulating hills among Brindisi, Bari and Taranto provinces. When we left the city of Lecce, the weather was nice and mild, indeed it was 26° C. Later on, after one hour and a half of driving, the tempearature was around 22° C and the sky had a light veil of clouds, which enhanced the mellowness of the soil and the honeyed palette of colors that nature uses to offer as gift during the Autumn season.
Once more we witnessed a masterwork of nature. Reverberating golden light and pink streakings painted the sky above ploughed fields, these latter as powerful expression of hard work and daily life in the surrounding area. That modern view of a rural frame, which reminded of the meticulous telling of great artists about authentic life in the countryside.
Wishing everybody a beautiful weekend!
“It is nature that makes wheat and grass grow, but it is art that prepares the soil”. – Giovanni Battista Della Porta

It is early morning, about 27.5°C, when, from the highway Lecce – Gallipoli – Santa Maria di Leuca (exit Galatone), I head to Seclì, a village in the South West of Apulia. Indeed, it is not too far from the Ionian coast.
The small ancient church, dedicated to S. Antonio, (one of the patron saints of the village), is on the right side, at the beginning of the main street, which leads to the center of the village. The church was built around the end of the 16th Century together with the ancient monastery, where friars belonging to the order of Friars Minor lived following the Franciscan Rule.
On June 13th, in the early morning, locals and even people on foot from the neighboroughood, get to the church for the celebration of the mass in honor of the humble saint, on small pilgrimages made of prayers and old singing.
A very suggestive moment in all the celebration is when local bakeries and common people offer and share “the holy bread of S. Antonio” with the community, as sign of deep devotion toward the saint and old ritual to express thanks at the reaping time, which happens again and again one year after an other.
Here we are finally reconnecting to nature! Let’s focus on the beautiful shots taken recently in this month of May. We are in the middle of Spring and now, more than ever, we have been given the great privilege of enjoying wonderful outstretched views, majestic natural landscapes made of bucolic simplicity, having a dip into local history and art. Indeed, these are among the featured elements, which make our Apulia land to look like a huge natural work space that is worth a visit.
Welcome!

A dominant impulse on encountering beauty is to wish to hold on to it, to possess it and give it weight in one’s own life. There is an urge to say ‘I was here, I saw this and it mattered to me’. ” – Alain de Botton
Soon, museums and special places of historical, artistic, spiritual architectural value and importance will open their doors again to both locals and travellers coming from other areas of the Country. Hopefully, these places of culture will be soon also available and enjoyable to visitors from other Countries, who can finally come to visit Italy again in safe conditions. Among a wide range of cultural spots, which are worth a visit in the South of Apulia, is Santa Caterina d’Alessandria basilica, that is a splendid gem of Romanesque and Gothic architectural style in Apulia region.
It takes only 20/30 minutes from Lecce to reach this wonderful monument in Galatina by car. Besides, it is possible to park free and within a very short distance from the small square, in the historical center, where the basilica is situated. These pics were taken some time ago during a guided tour. On that occasion, a friendly and well trained guide introduced the amazing sceneries and frescoes of the basilica to visitors.
Raimondello Orsini Del Balzo, a nobleman of the Kingdom of Naples, belonging to one of the most influential noble families in Italy between the Middle Age and the Renaissance era, was the main customer of the basilica that was built on the preexistent foundations of a Byzantine church. Later on, after he died, his wife, Maria d’Enghien, countess of Lecce, kept on with the leading role of costumer and ordered the execution of the precious frescoes, which nowadays we can admire in the basilica, to artists coming from different areas of Italy and basically from Giotto and the Senese school of painting.
The legend tells that Prince Raimondello, coming from Holy Land, stopped by the Saint Catherine’s Monastery in the Sinai region to pray on the corps of the saint. They say, Raimondello, while in the act of kissing her hand, took one of her fingers with him and hid it until he was in Italy. That finger is nowadays preciously treasured relic in the monastery next to the basilica.
Despite the terrible historical time humanity is experiencing, nature continues to make a gift of its great little miracles in everyday life. On this Easter Monday, the weather is wonderful here in Apulia, in Southern Italy. The air is mild and a gentle breeze makes the flowers of our garden dance with graceful bows in the morning light. Step by step, looking forward with confidence, we will soon continue to build the future. Wishing everybody a good Easter Monday and please, stay safe <3
We are often in a big hurry throughout the day with work and family, but recently, since we have to stay at home because of covid-19, for sure ve’ve got more time for enjoying cooking and appreciating healthy food or perhaps we might have some difficulties to find yeast at the food shop. So, let’s create some basic sourdough starter tonight. Soon, it will be good and useful for making bread and pizza. Wishing everybody a good weekend!
In this peculiar moment our world is going through, which requires spirit of adaptability, our thoughts go to those, who risk to get ill and doctors, nursing staff and volunteers, who are struggling every day facing illness in the huge effort to save life of patients. We hope we will overcome this hard challenge soon and in the best way possible. No doubt this unpleasant situation is also an economic challenge for a lot of people, in specific way, those, who are engaged in the tourism field, like us, since travellers, tourists, customers cannot travel as usual. We thank you all, who kindly are showing warmth and sympathy. We are glad and touched by the very special friendship feeling we have with you all. Many thanks for being all together. We hope to be back to a more normal situation as soon as possible. Please, be safe for yourselves and for your loved ones. Thank you
